At Halifax Veterinary Centre our motto is "We Treat Your Pets as though They Were Our Own". This means that the procedures that we do, the care that we take, and the recommendations that we make are just what we would for our own animals - and we all do have our own!
However, we are also aware that some treatments are more expensive than others. If you are worried about expense (and who isn't?) don't hesitate to bring it up. Talk to our Vets or Vet nurses about how we can offer budget options to suit your needs.
From the following description of our services you will see that we have a very modern facility offering many procedures, and dont forget that visitors are welcome!
The Main Entrance of the Vet Clnic is from Bridge Street. There is plenty of free, family-safe parking, attractive gardens and outdoor seating. There is also ramp access. Use the Google Map below to navigate you way easily to our clinic.
Retail and Reception

The Retail and Reception area features, first and foremost, the receptionists (!) who will greet you and help with the check-in procedure. These duty nurses are also trained to assist emergency situations at once.
Here you will also find the largest selection of premium pet foods in the Top of the South, a full range of skin and flea products, and a large, well set out retail area making easy, convenient shopping. Again, our nurses are very up-to-date with all the products offered.
Free, fresh coffee and filtered water are there for your refreshment, and there are toys and a play area for the children as well.
Special out-patient services are also arranged in the reception area. These include free weighing and nurse diet advice, Puppy Preschool, Canine Junior, and Dynamic Dog Classes.
Consulting Rooms

The 3 Consulting Rooms ensure privacy and minimum waiting time.
These rooms are designed for the owner as well as the veterinarian to be seated during examinations. You can also see your pet's computerised records.
Cat, Dog and Isolation Wards

The Cat Ward, the Dog Ward and the Isolation Ward each have under-floor heating and computer controlled ventilation.
The cats each have a cozy day cage or a roomy overnight kennel. Dogs have special sound dampening, and the big chaps have large, walk-in cages. We also have outdoor runs for comfy toileting and "sunshine therapy."
Laboratory and Pharmacy

A well-equipped Laboratory and Pharmacy mean rapid, reliable diagnosis and most common prescription treatments. Halifax Veterinary Centre also uses several outside laboratories, but only those that have quality control mechanisms in place.
Treatment Room

The Treatment Room is where routine hospital procedures take place; you can see what's going on from the reception area. It also houses the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where animals may be on heat pads, intravenous (IV) pumps, oxygen therapy, repeated medications, or need constant monitoring.
Operating Theatre

A state of the art Operating Theatre includes a very fine microbiologically filtered air supply to reduce the chance of infection. It features a unique Rimu operating table (much warmer than stainless steel!) and many monitoring devices. For more information, see our Referral section, but dont look at the photos if you are squeamish!
Radiology and Ultrasound
Modern X-ray and Ultrasound machines help with accurate diagnosis and treatment. The room for this has x-ray shielded lining, and can be darkened for better imaging. Ultrasound is increasingly used as a non-invasive tool for diagnostics.
You can bring your own video tape for a personal copy if you wish.
